Nürburgring Nordschleife Touristenfahrt 2020-08-22 Lotus Exige S2 NA
My second lap this year (no lap in 2019) and the only clear one of the day. So it's fast enough (8:21 BTG) but not "very fast". That was one more time a very busy week-end at the Ring despite the current situation. Too many people there to do clean laps.

Une session avec une petite bataille avec une Exige Sport 380 et une 911 puis vers la fin de la session une 911 GT2 RS qui était plus en mode découverte je pense. Le pilote de L'Exige V6 a été très fair play en me laissant passer après s'être un peu raté dans les S du Chemin aux Boeufs. Dépasser la 911 noire a été facile. Rester devant a été plus délicat !

Petite bataille amicale sur le circuit Bugatti avec le propriétaire d'une nouvelle Alpine A110. A priori, l'A110 souffre temporairement d'un manque de puissance à un moment car le moteur se met en mode dégradé. Surchauffe ? Je n'aurais pas pu le passer aussi facilement sinon. L'A110 est équipée en semi slicks (jantes 17" à l'avant) mais avec la géo d'origine.

My new fastest lap of the Ring was done Sunday morning with a little bit of trafic on the track. The biggest change in my setup are the tires : I'm using the new Nankang AR-1 semis. The grip is incredible compared to my old (too old ?) R888 ! Brake setup is AP Racing front disks with CL RC6 pads (yes I know, it's noisy ! But it's incredibly strong !). During this lap of the Nordscheife I had to brake very hard at Kesselchen (5:42) because a bike was riding at 100kph in the middle of the track and it was not safe enough to overtake him at 200 kph. A M3 E92 had not my chance and crashed into the guardrail on the left then on the right in front of me when trying to avoid the bike (from 5:47)

Special Note : My brakes are working perfectly thank you ! The setup is just very agressive with AP Racing discs and CL RC6 sintered metal brake pads. There is no better setup for the track except ultra costly carbon/carbon or carbon/ceramic brakes. It may be "a little bit noisy" but I don't care, I'm not here for cruising :-D Camera is a Garmin Virb Ultra 30. Gauges data comes from the cam sen...

It has been two years since my last lap of the Ring with the Exige. I came back with a lot of mods (different final gear, 4.8 instead of 5.0 part which was worn, decat, full uniball setup for suspension...). But the Ring did not change in two years : not a single clean lap during the Week-end, lots of accidents and closures so this was only an 8'22 BTG lap. But still a lot of fun in my even mor...

A fun lap of the Nordscheife following Yakam's yellow Clio 3 RS and Max's blue Focus RS :-) My Clio was completely stock this time except Akrapovic Evo exhaust. Road tires (Bridgestone Adrenalin RE002) and stock brake pads. Far from ideal for the task but I took the Clio at the last minute because I have a problem with the gearbox in my Lotus Exige.

    Dude? That noise from your brakes is darn near as irritating as the rookie-turtle in the GT-R was. I have spent thousands of hours on the first 6 Gran Turismos at The 'Ring. I know all 176 turns of that harlot very intimately and there are a number of them where you DO NOT WANT to brake late. Geez, some of them dont even like THROTTLE braking!!!!!

      I did a few hundred of laps of the Ring in GT4 before my first real lap in... 2005 ! And it was really something else 😀 I did nearly 600 real laps since + countless laps with other GT, Forza and Assetto Corsa. Nothing replaces the real thing ;-) (even though a heavily modded AC is my favourite virtual one)

      I have a baffled oil pan (not Moroso but very similar in design) + oil temperature and pressure gauges. Never had a problem with oil pressure since. I also have an oil catch can positioned higher than the engine which solves the problem of losing oil through the PCV during high G right turns.

    Why are people complaining so much? Great POV-ish video. It must be quite a thrill to go around the 'Ring. Regarding the brakes: my first thought was that they're ceramic. I'm surprised that they aren't, but they sure seem to slow the car down, so... :)

      @@Ghost-dx8mm Silent brakes are for grocery getter 😀 More seriously I use a very uncommon setup : the sound is caused by the combination between AP Racing steel rotors (not iron like 99.9 % of the production) and CL RC6 sintered metal pads. If I install more classic iron rotors there is almost no sound. But the iron rotors are heavier and a bit more sensible to overheating. My setup is overkill for the Ring which is a very fast track so brake cooling is very strong and I could use a less extreme setup. But I don't drive only at the Ring and I don't care about the noise : earplugs !

      It's not my best lap. On my channel you will find faster laps than this one and less bouncing ;-) Stock gearing with a hug gap between 4th and 5th does not help either with a very peaky engine having absolutely no torque below 6500 rpm.

    That Nissan driver was shocking. His track position on nearly every corners entry and exit was all over the place. Obviously played for too much GT....piss poor and dangerous driving....your driving on the other hand was sublime....you seemed to be getting the maximum out of that little Lotus....I salute you sir !

      During Touristenfahrt days like here, German Road Regulation apply except speed limit (overtake only by the left for example) . Your car insurance apply too (if the insurance company did not include and anti-Nürburgring clause). So in case of a crash you may be covered by your insurance contract (or not !). Best thing to do is not crashing into something or somebody 🙂 A lunatic GT-R driver does not help !

    bad driver; but I do not like the GT-R. I did a taxi lap, I could feel the car "crabbing " around the corners. No sliding, a kind of odd hopping. I did hit a fluid spill and spun, "08.08.19 Spin" Now stuck in Montana with the snow and cold. why? why?

    N/A engine ( i think ) so it's normal to go high in the revs, and it's possible that some models borrowed Toyota or Honda engines. Anyway i do agree that the GT-R driver isn't well aware of the track or knowing well is car nor having the skills, at least it didn't crash it. ( quote: after seing further on the video, yeah he do sometimes had pushing too much on the rev limiter, instead of swichting gears )

      Correct. Engine is Toyota 2ZZ-GE 1.8L NA. Red Line is 8.5K RPM and the engine start pulling from 6K so it is mandatory to always keep it in this power band. And it's a lot of fun in this light car 🙂Mine weights 825 Kg in running order (1800 Lbs).

      Wrong, brakes are not meant to squeak, squeaking is caused by vibrating, this means they are not working as efficiently as if they were not vibrating.

      There is a lot of misunderstanding about what is a rev limiter. It's just an injection cut when max rpm is reached. It does not cause any harm to "hit" it as you don't hit anything ;-)

      @@Taurim there is a misunderstanding about rev limiters, it’s so you don’t explode your FN engine dummy it’s so the driver doesn’t blow the engine, when not shifting properly, it’s an engine builders last say!

      So what you’re saying it’s healthy, or a short shift will be better for the life of all the moving parts? Just because the computer could keep the motor at the limit just before boom doesn’t make it ok!

      Thank you ! Rear view cam is a cheap reverse cam kit I bought on eBay. I disassembled the plastic case surrounding the screen to only keep the screen and attach it to the dashboard. The solution is not perfect : the rear view cam is too wide angle. Distant cars are too small to be seen. But it's better than the stock mirror in which you see nothing except the rear wing 😄
